Watch: Andrea Pirlo’s Beautiful Penalty Against England in Euro Semifinals

By Kevin Koczwara

England and Italy played to a dull 0-0 draw, the first scoreless game in this year’s European Championship. The game went to penalties and naturally the English lost. Italy prevailed. And Andrea Pirlo, the player of the game and maybe the tournament, continued his magnificent display with this penalty kick.

England goalkeeper Joe Hart tried to everything he could to put off Italy’s penalty takers during the shootout, but it didn’t work against Pirlo, the long-haired Jedi Master of the soccer ball. Watch as he scrumptiously chips in his kick. It’s just beautiful.

Thierry Henry Returns to Arsenal

It’s being reported just about everywhere, including The New York Times, The Guardian, and ESPN (AP Story), as well as every other other British newspaper and soccer website across the globe, that Thierry Henry will get one last hooray with Arsenal, at least for a few weeks.
The man with a statue in front of the Emirates will return to help the club deal with players leaving for the African Nations Cup. Henry has been training with Arsenal during Major League Soccer’s offseason. At the same time, The New Red Bulls get more publicity in return, kind of. This should be interesting.

Jozy scores in AZ debut

Jozy Altidore already scored as many goals for his latest club, AZ of the Eredivisie, as he scored for Hull City while on loan from Villareal in 2009/10 season (he played 28 games for Hull City that season).

It took one match for Altirdore to get himself on the score sheet for his new club. That’s a good sign for the U.S. Men’s National Team. The striker still has the potential that so many people saw in him while he was breaking through the ranks at the New York Red Bulls while still a teenager. And don’t forget that he’s still relatively young at 21-years-old.

Altidore’s goal comes at the 8 minute mark, or so, in the highlight below. It’s the least impressive of the four goals from the match between AZ and PSV. New USMNT coach Jürgen Klinsmann will hope that some of the skill displayed in the other goals will rub off onto the forward.
