Real Madrid takes down the Philadelphia Union, thoughts

The Philadelphia Union was able to hold its own against one of the best in the world, Real Madrid, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Saturday night.

A few thoughts following Real Madrid’s 2-1 defeat over the Philadelphia Union.

  • Despite being reasonably entertained, the Sons of Ben and Union supporters can at least tip their hats knowing this outcome could have been very different. At the half, the score could have 4-2 or 3-2 in favor of Philadelphia, but failed attempts, missed chances and an array of blunders nullified any chance of a positive outcome. Along with having an impeccable 22 points in the MLS (closest points total is the New York Red Bulls with 15), the Galaxy have the stingiest defense in the MLS. The West Coasters have conceded only two goals in eight games, an impressive feat in any league in the world.
