New England Revolution exploit LA Galaxy’s lack of width

By Kevin Koczwara

There was a lot of talk of the Los Angeles Galaxy playing poorly against the New England Revolution and lost 3-1. It seemed like Arlo White and Kyle Martino, the announcers for the game on NBC Sports, believed that the Galaxy’s poor play was the only factor in the game. What the two announcers failed to acknowledge was that one team’s positive play and game plan can make its opponent look like a U-8 side all out of ideas.

Revolution coach Jay Heaps showed his tactical acumen against Los Angeles with a flawless game plan. Heaps noticed some weaknesses in the Galaxy team sheet and went after them. The major omission and weakness for Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles side was the injury to Landon Donovan, the team’s attacking focal point and creator in the attacking third.

New England Revolution Partner with NuRide

By Kevin Koczwara

NuRide was brought to my attention by one of my co-workers and friends. She wrote a story about it for Worcester Mag (our employer). She is really into riding her bike and making sure she wasn’t leaving an eco-footprint. I was astonished this program existed.

Today, the New England Revolution announced it as partnering with NuRide. The Revolution will offer team related rewards through the online program.

Revolution Home Again: Three Points to Stopping Portland Timbers

By Kevin Koczwara

The New England Revolution opened the season with two games on the road and two losses. It’s not the kind of beginning Jay Heaps hoped for when he took the job as the team’s coach.

Diamonds in MLS Rough: Michael Ballack is Just Fool’s Gold

By Kevin Koczwara

Drew Carey, a part owner of the Seattle Sounders as well as a comedian and former television star, took part in a panel discussion about soccer analytics at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference on Saturday, March 3. He represented Major League Soccer on the panel that included mostly technical directors from European clubs. And yet, Carey, not a career soccer person or scout, unveiled the most wisdom on how teams are tying to use analytics, especially his team in a global market flushed with teams and money.

Soares, McCarthy what’s left of the snap-back crew and New England’s central defense

A.J. Soares and Stephen McCarthy sat at their lockers with old-school snap-back hats straight out of the 90’s on their heads. It was media day for the New England Revolution, and the second year players sat next to each other in front of their lockers dressed and ready to go. I decided to approach them and talk about their second seasons in Major League Soccer and their second year with the Revolution.

MLS First Kick: New England Revolution at San Jose Earthquakes

By Kevin Koczwara

The New England Revolution didn’t get the easiest of season openers. The Revolution start the season on the west coast , where the Revs haven’t won since Sept. 26 2009 when they beat the Seattle Sounders, 1-0, with the San Jose Earthquakes.

New England hopes to end a 10 game winless streak on the west coast, 0-8-2, and begin its new season with a win for its new coach, Jay Heaps.

New England Revolution trying to catch up with new facilities and new approach

By Kevin Koczwara

Changes needed to happen for the New England Revolution to keep up with the rest of Major League Soccer. The Revolution enjoyed success in the mid-2000’s, but as the decade came to a close the Revs fell so far behind the rest of the league that they can barely see the rest of the league’s brake lights ahead. This winter, New England’s front office staff set out on a mission to change that, to get the team back on track and catch it up with the rest of the league.

Revolution sign French forward Saër Sène

By Kevin Koczwara

The New England Revolution announced today that the club signed French forward Saër Sène on a free transfer from Germany’s Bayern Munich. Sène played for Munich’s reserve squad since 2009, Bayern Munich II, which competes in the lower levels of Germany’s professional system. He will be formally added to the team’s roster upon receipt of his U.S. P-1 Visa and his International Transfer Certificate.

Jose ‘Pepe’ Moreno forces the Revolution to look for another path, for now

Jose "Pepe" Moreno signed with the new England Revolution and now seems to be backing out of the deal. Not a good sign for the Revs.

 By Kevin Koczwara

“We still don’t know with certainty that the quotes attributed to him were in fact his, so if they are, we need to understand what he’s dealing with and where his feelings are coming from before we proceed and find some resolution on the matter.” — Brian Bilello, President of The New England Revolution

A week or so after the Major League Soccer SuperDraft I spoke with Mike Burns, General Manager of the New England Revolution, about the team’s latest signings, John Lozano and Fernando Cárdenas, from Colombia. Burns said he and coach Jay Heaps went down to Colombia one weekend to watch the league’s relegation playoffs. In passing Burns mentioned he and Heaps had discussions with other players.
