FC Dallas has Date With Colorado Rapids in MLS Cup Final; Hoops Beat Los Angeles Galaxy to Advance

FC Dallas proved its the best team in the Western Conference last night by beating Major League Soccer’s top team in the regular season, the Los Angeles Galaxy, 3-0. Dallas beat Real Salt Lake in the semi-finals to move on to face what looked like an unbeatable Galaxy team. Los Angeles manhandled very good Seattle Sounders team in the semi-finals.

Dallas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman cemented his place as the league’s best man between the pipes this year with a handful of spectacular saves. And David Ferriera proved, again, that he is the best player in the MLS this season and the league’s MVP. The Hoops midfielder pulled all the right strings and scored the match winner while assisting another another goal.

The Rapids beat playoff darlings and underdogs, The San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night. The Rapids advanced to the quarter-finals after beating the Columbus Crew in penalties in the semi-finals.

Colorado had missed the playoffs the previous three seasons. The last, and only other time,  the Rapids made it to the MLS Cup final was in 1997 when the team lost to D.C. United . FC Dallas has never advanced to the MLS Cup in the club’s history.

The MLS Cup final will be played on November 21 (8:30 pm ET on ESPN) at Toronto’s BMO Field, the home of MLS team Toronto FC. FC Dallas will have some catching up to do with the fans as the Rapids are already trying to get the backing of Toronto natives going to the match.
